What it is

4-Chlororesorcinol is a resorcinol derivative carrying a chlorine atom on the benzene ring. In permanent hair colour it acts as a coupler and influences the resulting nuance. Its origin is synthetic. That is factual information, not an assessment.

Couplers do not colour by themselves. During the development time they react with the oxidised dye precursor; only then is the actual dye formed inside the hair. Which coupler is used helps decide whether a shade turns out warm, matt or cool.

On the name: a chlorine atom bound within a molecule is something entirely different from free chlorine. The word component in itself says nothing about the effect on skin.
